Shop News- June, 2026
School is out and we are excited for the summer months!
BOOK NEWS:
The Iowa Indie Bookstore Passport season is nearly upon us. MIBA Maps are available now, and passports should be available toward the end of June, and this 3 month event begins July 1. We had such a great time last year, and we met so many terrific people! If you haven’t participated in years past, think about it for this year- it is a real help to your local bookstores, and a fun way to do a little staycationing or day-tripping this summer.
Kid’s Summer Reading Challenge will begin the first of June. We have forms to pick up at the desk to keep track of your child’s summer reading and book purchases. Kids who fill their list will be eligible for a prize pack at the end of the summer, including a reader’s badge, a bookmark and 50% off the book of their choice! The top reader will receive a gift certificate of $50 (for more books, obviously!).
The Silent Book Society will meet Thursday, June 4 at 6pm. Bring a book, visit for a few minutes, grab a cup of tea from our tea selection, and read for one silent hour. I got past a tough section in the book I was reading last time, and was able to finish rather quickly afterwards! Peer pressure works. If you are in need of chatting- this is not the book club for you. Keep an eye on our calendar- we do have some ideas for more chatty bookclubs in the future months.
YARN & CRAFT NEWS:
Our yarn line is growing- we will have mini-skeins of our sock line available this month- including new colorways and some semi-solids. We also have a new line in development that we’re very excited about, and we’re hoping to have some on the shelves within the next few months.
New embroidery and felt craft kits are on the way! Hawthorn Handmade, Corinne Lapierre, Darby & Windsor and Jessica Long will be on the shelves starting next week. These are great for beginners and experts alike, and make excellent gifts for the crafters in your life.

Crafting Happy Hour is on the schedule every Friday from 4-6- bring a friend, bring your projects! This is a great time to bring questions about projects that you’ve put in time-out, or are having issues with, and a good time to socialize
Kids Stitch Club is on the schedule beginning in mid-June and will run weekly. Kids aged 8 - 12 are invited to spend an hour learning crochet, knitting and embroidery with other kids. Cost is $10 for a beginner kit. If your child has tools already- there is no charge.
